Chloe

A small walled garden in the centre of Lewes

“We live in the centre of a small town nestled in the heart of the South Downs National Park, our garden is very much a small paved area both front and back. Helen provided such inspirational advice on how we can encourage nature into our small space, with guidance tailored to the specifics of each area - front south facing with the larger rear garden being sheltered and shady.

Helen was very responsive to my own ideas and hopes for the garden, offering excellent problem-solving advice including installing a small water butt on a down pipe in the front garden to save me having to trail watering cans through the house. Her knowledge of what would be best suited for each space and best matched for our taste and aesthetic was expansive and all of the follow up guidance and help with planning and planting has been brilliant. Can’t wait to see how the gardens grow and evolve.“

“(Your report) has made me appreciate the potential (of my garden) and to understand what it is already there, and how could be enhanced. Before your report, I had thought the garden needed a major overhaul - the report has helped me see that we can make small changes that will help to transform it and make it much more wildlife-friendly.”

A large village garden backing onto fields

“You took me through the various stages of how to turn my field into a wildlife sanctuary. Listening to my ideas and concerns and providing a very detailed plan and recommendations on what and how to plant in each section of the field (garden). it went over and above my expectations and more importantly something that will be easy to work with. it has pulled our ideas together and enhanced what our original thoughts were.”

A medium sized suburban garden in a village

“When planning some changes to our garden we got Helen along to show us how best to keep the wildlife happy! Her report was very detailed.  It was great to see we already had some good native pollinators, climbing plants and woodpiles that would help attract wildlife to the garden.  She also gave us lots more ideas and lists of plants to move forward with.  Ultimately we came away happy that our low maintenance neglected areas were actually the bits that were doing the best for the environment!”

A large and slightly wild garden on a village edge, with an orchard and wooded area

“I have really enjoyed learning more about our garden through our Wilding Report. I’ve loved learning about the different trees, plants and flowers, and especially about the insects, birds and small mammals that enjoy their nuts, berries, pollen and shelter. The report itself is incredibly informative and full of recommendations – with a very useful summary at the end.  There’s guidance on making smaller changes and bigger work/projects.  I love the idea that our garden contributes to the local area’s biodiversity – its exciting to think that making some of these changes will bring lasting benefits to the wider natural environment. Sometimes we can feel a bit overwhelmed and unsure about where to start and what to do – I definitely feel more informed and inspired to start taking small steps to making our garden more wildlife friendly.”

Minibeast workshops for KS1 school children

Helen ran our mini-beast / bug hotel building session for a primary school visiting our Stanmer Wellbeing Gardens.  She delivered a fantastic session that had the perfect balance making the activity fun and engaging as well as informative and educational.  The children absolutely loved it. The activity culminated in small groups of three building bug hotels around our garden with each group explaining their design and thought process around why they built it.  It really showed that they had listened and learned and had a great time in doing so.  Thank you Helen 🙏

A medium sized new-build garden

This is fantastic – absolutely what I was hoping for but far more than I was expecting! I now feel so much more confident as to what to do, when and what result I can expect. It is also packaged in such a manageable way that I feel it will be achievable in ‘bite-size’ pieces. I will really enjoy working my way through this over the next few months, and years. Indeed there is an element of me that wants to rush home early from holiday and get started straightaway! I suspect there will be a few detailed questions as I work through the different stages. I come back to you with points of clarification if that is OK.

Thanks so much again …
